Taiwan authorities' order to take off the market a rice noodle product made in the Chinese mainland has sparked taunts from the netizens on the island, who said the Democratic中醫治療濕疹, Progressive Party (DPP) is the one that should be removed.
Li Chong-lim, a local "legislator" in Tainan city, Taiwan, reportedly asked local authorities to withdr乾癬藥膏,aw the noodles from their shelves because its package bore the words, "Both you and I are Chinese, let's stay together." Li claimed that it implied reunification.
The "mainland affairs council", the island's agency on cross-Straits affairs, asked the importer to either withdraw the product or to cover those words with paint. Taiwan economic affairs authority released a statement on Jan 16 saying that it issued an order to pull the product from the market.
I n response to the authorities' move, internet users on the island left messages questioning whether the ban on the import of the noodle product is based on laws and regulations or just because of the printings on its packaging.
